Just another week in Hollywood.
RAMIELE MALUBAY
Born in 1987
“Alone” by Heart
Several pitch problems throughout the song didn’t help Ramiele at a crucial point in the competition for her. She hasn’t been the best the past few weeks and picking a big song like “Alone” wasn’t the greatest idea. Yeah, I know she may be sick, but come on. Get over it. Ramiele, I remember when you used to could actually sing. What happened?
Prediction: She’s going to get a little bit sicker when she finds herself in the bottom three.
JASON CASTRO
Born in 1987
“Fragile” by Sting
Jason was in his element: behind a guitar. It was soothing which for me is not a good thing. I’m looking to be impressed this week. It’s the top 10. You have to prove why you should be there, not just chill behind a guitar. I wasn’t impressed one bit. It’s the music business. Dude, it may be your birthday, but you’re going to have to step it up next week.
Prediction: He won't get the birthday present he wants when he ends up in the bottom three.
SYESHA MERCADO
1987
“If I Were Your Woman” by Stephanie Mills
First, the baby cry has got to stop. You’re freaking us out. Second, wow! Two great performances back-to-back from Syesha? That’s how you win American Idol. Watch out David Archuleta and Carly Smithson, Syesha is moving to the top of the list.
Prediction: Ms. Mercado will be definitely be here next week. Can she keep it up three weeks in a row? We’ll see.
CHIKEZIE
1985
“If Only For One Night” by Luther Vandross
Although there were a few off notes, he has found a comfort zone on the stage. He knows how to work the crowd and put on a show, but that can only last so long. He’s got to get back to the Chikezie that America put in the top 12. Where’s that guy? Maybe he’ll show up next week.
Prediction: There’s a slight chance Chikezie will go home, but don’t count on it. His supporters should come through and send him into week four.
BROOKE WHITE
1983
“Every Breath You Take” by The Police
She may have messed up the beginning, but she brought it together and pulled off an ‘okay’ performance. It was nothing special, but it was probably enough to make it to next week. I really liked Brooke at the start of the competition but she is continually falling down my list. She needs a breakout performance and she needs it soon.
Prediction: I could easily see her America voting her in the bottom three. It’s hard to connect to Brooke at times and that’s what America needs.
MICHAEL JOHNS
1978
“We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” by Queen
Want to be unoriginal? Sing these two songs together like they have been since they came out. I wanted to see him just sing “We Are the Champions” and drop the other because “We Will Rock You” adds nothing to a performance. I took a smoke break halfway through the song, because I knew exactly what was going to happen. On the other hand, he did have a superb vocal.
Prediction: You know he’ll be safe this week. No question.
CARLY SMITHSON
1983
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
Carly is dependable. You can always count on an excellent performance from the Irish girl. I love the fact that Randy can hear the pitch problems, because I know it’s really hard to hear those off-key notes during a live show. Other than the last note, there was nothing that was very original about her performance, but it was a solid one.
Prediction: She’s has to be safe: she’s got the luck of the Irish!
DAVID ARCHUELTA
1990
“You're the Voice” or David Foster
I thought it was a really strange song choice. Although I had never heard the song before, he made me kind of like it. Like Paula said, Archuleta could sing the phone book and make it sound good. I don’t think it was his best performance, but it was good enough to keep him singing for at least one more week.
Prediction: See ya next week, kid.
KRISTY LEE COOK
1984
“God Bless the U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood
Every time I see Kristy, I can’t get the “8 Days a Week” performance out of my mind. Regardless, she actually is starting to sound pretty good. It was a little awkward at the key change. She picked a great song for her: one that she could sing and one that American will connect with. I have been one of her biggest haters, but I have to admit it: not bad Kristy Lee Cook, not bad.
Prediction: She will actually find herself out of the bottom three for the first time.
DAVID COOK
1982
“Billy Jean” by Michael Jackson (Audioslave version)
Archuleta move over, there’s a new David in town. He’s been around for a while, but this week I think America will take note and realize how great this guy is. Without a doubt, David Cook is the frontrunner in this competition and he keeps on the road he is going, he is going to be hard to beat.
Prediction: The best performance of the night should keep him safe with ease.
BOTTOM THREE: Brooke White, Ramiele Malubay and believe it or not Jason Castro.
WHO’S GOING HOME: I think Brooke may have to pack her bags this week, but really the bottom spot is up for grabs.
BEST PERFORMANCE: David Cook knows what he’s doing and I haven’t given him the props as some have. Well, here’s your props man.
READERS SOUND OFF: Let the battle between Team Archuleta and Team Cook begin. What do you guys think? Log in and let me know.
