DAVID COOK

“Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran

The performance was nothing special. He usually makes a song his own and I wish he had done that with his first choice. I’m not sure “Hungry…” was the best song he could have chosen. His vocal was pretty solid, but I wasn’t impressed overall. At times it sounded like he was slurring the words to make one long one:

“Smelllikeisoundimlostinacrowd Andimhungrylikethewolf.”

Good thing he has a second song.

Rating: 7

“Baba O’Riley” by The Who

It was way better than the first performance. David Cook is back! He did what he has been doing all season and it rocked.

Rating: 8

Overall: 7.5

Prediction: He’ll be in the Top 3 performing next week. Bet on it.

SYESHA MERCADO

“Proud Mary” by Tina Turner

I KNEW she was singing this song the second I saw what she was wearing tonight and I’ll be honest, it kind of scared me. No one can imitate Tina and Syesha tried and failed miserably. At times it sounded like she was screaming. She looked great though.

Rating: 6

“A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke

It was pretty frickin’ good. I’m not sure what Randy was smoking, but Syesha sang the song beautifully. I’m not big on contestants crying, but she deserved to let it out. Syesha continues to step it up and her chances to make the finals are looking better each week.

Rating: 8

Overall: 7

Prediction: America knows she was good. She’s safe.

JASON CASTRO

“I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley

Last week, I said, “Count on Jason singing a Marley song.” I thought he would be in his element and nail the song, but I was wrong. It was all over the place and it was not a great start for Jason tonight. Actually, it was a horrible start. He better have something spectacular for the next song, because right now he’s going home tonight.

Rating: 4

“Mr. Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan

Poor Jason. It started out pretty good until he forgot the words. (Not a few words. Lots of words.) You could tell it threw him off and it sounded like he’s not taking the competition seriously. Jason’s time is up and the “Bobs” didn’t work out like he thought they would.

Rating: 4

Overall: 4

Prediction: Simply put: Jason’s going home. Holla!

DAVID ARCHULETA

“Stand By Me” by Ben E. King

It was without a doubt the best performance so far … by a mile — Actually, by 10 miles. He just secured his ticket to the final two. There’s not much I can say except, wow!

Rating: 9

“Love Me Tender” by Elvis Presley

Again, David delivers. Archuleta has been the only consistent contestant this season. Each week, you can count on him to sing his heart out. Right now, he deserves the title. Next week will be the true test for him.

Rating: 8

Overall: 8.5

Prediction: See ya next week bro.

Best Performer: David Archuleta

Worst Performer: Jason Castro

Note: This will be the true test of the Idol voting system. If Castro makes into the Top Three, something needs to change. The dude forgot the lyrics and it has to be embarrassing for the producers to have this guy in the Top Four.
