In Treatment - Paul and Gina (and Kate) Week 6
Posted March 16, 2008
These Friday sessions are by far my favorites. We get to see the therapist go through therapy. And, my, he is a reluctant patient. Strange, since he is the one who initiated these sessions. Anyway, kudos to Gina for putting up with Paul's arrogance and resistance. Every now and then she puts him in his place.
So Paul and Kate are having problems being parents --- together. It's like a power struggle. Which parent will the child in need call first? Which parent understands the children better? God, just get over it and get on with your jobs as parents.
Gina, you've got your work cut out for you. But you're making progress. I thought your analysis of Paul and Kate's relationship was brilliant. She used to be a weak, needy person who satisfied Paul's desire to "fix things." Now, after all these years, Kate is trying to carve out her own identity. And it has upset the balance of power. That's why Paul is attracted to Laura. Well, that and the pouty lips, sultry eyes and long legs. Yep, unfortunately, Paul is not a god. He is a man. And, like you said Kate, he is blindly following his d*ck.
I don't remember a Paul and Gina session that didn't end abruptly. And this one was jarring. Makes me wonder what it's like in the car as you guys drive home. I imagine you don't talk. And I'm guessing dinner table conversation is hard to come by at your house, huh? No wonder your kids are so screwed up.
