In Treatment - Jake and Amy Week 8

Posted March 21, 2008

Amy didn't show up for therapy this week, and Jake is talking like they are going to get a divorce. And that's okay. These two don't seem to belong together anyway. I just feel sorry for the kid involved. Jake did reveal something surprising -- he's actually intelligent. His father is a big-time college professor, and dinner table discussions used to center on books and such. Jake's lifestyle -- he's a musician who flunked out of high school -- is an act of rebellion against all that his father represents (again, there's that parenting theme). But it seems that Jake screwed up somewhat and married someone who is representative of his father. Thus the arguments.

Well, Jake is still living with Amy, though he is sure they are on the path to divorce. He's afraid he's going to lose his kid. And I think that would be sad. Jake really is a good person -- or at least he's not as messed up as Amy. I think he really wants to raise the kid well. He wants to be the parent that his father never was. Amy, on the other hand, hasn't expressed quite as much interest in Lenny. She's busy with her career, and she's really damaged from seeing her father get killed. She also has an unhealthy relationship with her mother.

I hope we get to see some of this get resolved. Now that Jake has opened up a little bit, it would be a shame for him to discontinue his sessions. Guess we'll see what happens next season.
