Going cold turkey
Posted January 29, 2008
Starting today, Lucy (my just-turned-2-year-old) has officially begun potty training. And I'm scared silly. I did this with my son a few years ago, of course, but the method was very different.
With Lucy we're going straight from diapers to underwear (skipping the Pull-Ups) because that's the "Montessori Way" that they use at her preschool. Since she spends most of her waking hours there, I kinda have to do it their way. When her teachers first told me about it, I envisioned spending lots of quality time with my washing machine. Let's hope I'm wrong.
Lucy did great at school today. At home tonight, however, we're just 1 for 3. So I got to wash clothes after all.
The two times Lucy wet her pants tonight, she freaked out. She stood frozen and by the time I realized what had happened, she was yelling "ew, ew, ew!" and seemed to be on the verge of tears. (She is a very neat child who hates to get dirty.) A fresh pair of kitty cat undies made everything better, though.
Tomorrow we get another chance to stay dry and I've already learned that if Lucy tells me she doesn't need to go, I'm a fool to believe her.
