Napkins, Sunny D, and Bug-free

Posted June 26, 2007

I sometimes (ok, so ALL THE TIME) keep little mental notes about funny, interesting, odd things that happen to me on a daily basis. Some are great to keep to myself, others must be shared with somebody. They're too good not to! So on this nice Tuesday afternoon in June, I share some with you. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Went to Bogie's (in North Little Rock) last week for Open Mic Night. While standing near the bar, I noticed they have fun, colorful party napkins for customers. With my past in the restaurant/bar industry, that really stood out. Ya know? Usually, you get this little white "bev nap" (as we call them) And that's fine...but it's kinda cool Bogie's lets you set your glass on or wipe that beer foam off your face with---COOL COLORFUL napkins.

Last blog I mentioned my Indian neighbors. I'll divulge that story now. First off--I don't use the term "Indian" in a derrogatory way towards any heritage/culture. They are FROM India, we are friends, and 'nuff said. 1st story: Usha. She is a sweet little thing, my age and we often run into each other in the Public Library or in the workout room. Well, she's been wanting some skin care products from me ;) and to have me over for coffee. So sweet, but my schedule is so random and packed, not to mention I don't drink coffee much, but still, I really thought it'd be cool to be able to visit. One day it worked out... we were both on the treadmill (not the same one, don't worry) and we planned to meet in 30 minutes. I took her skincare and makeup samples. She insisted I come in for a visit and drink. As I enter her home, she takes her shoes off and tells me it's because something w/ her religion, God's area, something. I don't really remember--I just know I kicked mine off as quickly as possible! I sat down and she poured me some room-temperature Sunny Delight in a plastic wine glass that still had the sticker on it. She and husband had decorated the living area with colorful silk flowers, Christmas lights and little figurines of all sorts. Of course, there was a "shrine" type thing in the corner as tribute (for lack of another term) to their god. We chatted about our siblings, neighbors, the importance of being loyal to your marriage partner (I know! I know! I've never been married, but we have the same ideals) Anyway, our time spent together was time I don't regret one bit. I was able to help her with her laundry, hear a bit about her family and culture, and realize my choice of home decor isn't the same as everybody else. Oh, and that I might need to start drinking coffee.

That's enough Indian story for today. I'll save the other for next time.

Friday night I went to a party at Salty Parrot. This is new little bar/restaurant that sits on the Arkansas River, beside the Arkansas Queen Riverboat. The Young Democrats were having a party and invited SYNC. Not a self-proclaimed Democrat I enjoyed myself. Crowd was happy, band was entertaining and the weather was perfect for a "Rockin on the River" party. Be sure to check the pics I took in the photo gallery.

Then onto THE REV ROOM--Happy 1st Birthday! Chris and Suzon have a great thing going at this place. Rumba Revolution is the restaurant section with a cool patio. (Chris Henry was serenading the diners when I got there) and the REV ROOM is the hot club that hosts a number of cool acts every week. It's pretty cool to invite a nationally recognized rapper to your party (and him actually come) Well, they did just that--COOLIO sang to a packed house. See the pics on our gallery. But they got nothing on me--50 Cent is coming to my pool party and I've got MC Hammer doing my Christmas party.

Misc. stuff:

Shopping for a new t.v. Mine's been out of commission for DAYZ now, I'm on the market--this girl needs her News, Letterman and Regis!

Be nice to everybody. Unless you have a REASON not to. But if it's first time to meet, just be nice.

I just broke off about 3 weeks worth of a fingernail.

I've decided I need to hike Pinnacle Mountain and jog across the Big Dam Bridge soon.

I'm no longer The New Girl. We have another "corner girl" (as I was labeled once) and I'm gonna do my best to make her feel welcome.

Did you know they still make Fruit-Striped Gum?! Saw it just today

I got a bug shield on my new ride. Guess that means I can't be taxi to the ladybugs and praying mantises (manti ?) anymore. Dangit. There goes that extra income.

Well, that's all for now. Thanx for reading. Go grab a copy of SYNC--Sushi theme this week!

Why a bug shield? I've always wondered why people put those things on their vehicles anyway... They're ugly!

If your purpose is to keep your car hood from getting dings in the paint (to preserve its appearence), then why drive around with something that ugly on the front of your vehicle in the first place... It's just never made sense to me...
