Wine, a good friend and a meat & cheese plate

Email from one, Juli Goss:

"What time is your last assignment Shannon, I really need to get a drink after work."

Wow, she must be hurtin' if she's ready to drink the day away by 2:30...

After 2 and a half excruciating hours of waiting to meet my friend for a drink, she calls me from downstairs. I clock out and scurry out the glass doors of the Democrat Gazette building... as fast as anyone wearing galoshes can scurry anyway.

Juli is wearing her galoshes as well. It might be noted that we both have the same galoshes... only mine are blue and hers are red.

We both know that having a friend who has matching galoshes and will drink with the other at a drop of a hat is very important. We also both know we're in for a treat since its common knowledge that for at least the next 3 hours, we will be sitting across from one another talking about both important topics and completely meaningless topics. Here is a short list of things discussed:

The young woman's role in the workplace

My dog Beau licking snow off the back porch

Taking naps during our trip to Chicago

Exploding duck livers (on gingerbread crisps)

Building homes for Habitat for Humanity

Hair catching on fire at an audition

On top of the incredible company, it must be noted as well the service at Crush Wine Bar. The owner and wine extraordinaire, Joe was quite friendly and helped me pick out a wine from the "Miscellaneous Reds" section. Who knows why I felt like a miscellaneous red wine would be right for me, but after talking to Joe about what I was looking for, he brought me an amazing glass of wine... It started with an L and is from Argentina. Also, tasty.

Juli and I decided food was in order as well and asked for a meat and cheese plate. There are few things in life better than a meat and cheese plate. I'll stand by that statement.

Why am I writing about this?

Because you should call up your friend, even if she doesn't own matching galoshes,

and you should drink wine for hours and eat meat and cheese.

Do it.

That's what happy hours are for.
