Project Runway, Episode 6
Posted January 3, 2008
This episode is pure Project Runway. Make something out of candy? Hoorah! Only one person actually uses candy.... Jillian. It just so happens that Jillian is my favorite designer and she picked my favorite candy--Twizzlers. I think I'm officially in love.
Zac Posen came back to be a judge. He judged for a couple of episodes last season. He's the "it" designer for movie stars at the moment. It was nice to let the designers create something for another designer rather than a "client."

The episode:
Tim Gunn walks the designers to Hershey's Time Square store and lets them loose for five minutes to grab whatever they can to create their garment. Everyone is excited about this challenge except for the dude who has made clothes from edible things before--Chris. He needs to be kicked off again, and soon. Each designer is working on their own if you don't count the endless criticism and suggestions from little man, Christian.
Top Designs:
Rami's pink Candy Land anime wonder:
His dress screams the phrase "happy candy time," which apparently is what the judges were looking for. Nina, Heidi, Tim and Zac Posen couldn't shut up about how a lot of the dresses were "sad." They equate brown with sad this episode of course, which is the color of chocolate and Hershey's... but whatever. One of the judges mentioned that this dress could have looked ridiculous, but it turned out fun and even sophisticated. The construction of this dress is insane; Rami did an amazing job and he deserved this win. Congratulations.
Jillian's Twizzler dress:
I about ripped out my hair during this episode because poor Jillian was worried that she wouldn't be able to finish her garment. Since the Jennifer Grey look-alike is my favorite designer, I was terrified that she would be aufed way before her time. Those evil editors and what they do to poor, unsuspecting girls like me. When I saw Elisa's dress being put together it made me feel better that Jillian's couldn't possibly be the worst. Turns out, Jillian was a contender. Of course she was. She's awesome!
And, this is confusing...
Chris's strapless Hershey's minidress:
It is hard to say if this one was one of the top designs because the judges dogged it for a while... but if they're keeping the trend of judging the top three and bottom three designs last, then I guess his is one of the top. I like this dress alright. If it had a better fit I'd like it more. Also, I'm quite biased against Chris because I've loathed all of his designs except for this one thus far.
Bottom Designs:
Elisa's brown velvet thing with the silver floaties:
I gave crazy hippie girl a chance, but she's finally done for. This dress looked awful and then she added the poofy arm decor just to seal the auf-deal. Elisa has been a weak link for a while and it was her time to go. Her Sarah Jessica Parker garment was beautiful, but she had the help of Sweet P. I think Sweet P brought a lot of pretty to what Elisa was making and without that help, Elisa makes things like this... psssh, auf wiedersehen!
Sweet P's cute, but boring, silver dress:
She made approximately three dresses so I could see how on the third she had to skimp a bit. I like this dress, but it didn't pop like several of the other dresses. I about had a heart attack when Sweet P was in the bottom two. If she had been kicked off before Elisa... that would have been the end for me.
Victorya's Ice princess ruffled dress:
When her model came prancing down the runway... ugh, you could see the impatient looks of the judges. Too much theatrics just translate to corny, especially on the runway. I thought the dress was adorable, but she used too many basic materials (she used fabric from pillows). The cut and proportions were a bit confusing as well... I'm not surprised she was in the bottom. She's also insane. I've mentioned that right?
The other designs:
Christian (brown reeses peanut butter cup wrappers dress with the collar): This dress was cute, but it looked a bit like a trash bag. If it were "happier" the judges might have took more notice.
Kevin (brown cropped jacket, silver bodice and a brown silky skirt): I thought Kevin created something sleek that looked different than all the other designs. His was the only one with several pieces that wasn't simply a dress. Sooner or later he'll get noticed. I believe in you Kevin!
Kit Pistol (kit kat bodice, hershey's flared skirt, studded belt): So apparently you're alternative, huh? I like Kit, but after seeing Jeffrey's rock star style last season, Kit's style seems a bit immature. I don't think she'll make it to the final three.
Ricky (silver triangle top bodice with poofy hershey's and silver skirt): I like how playful this dress is. The construction of the bodice is really nice. I like it when I get to see Ricky's talent, but sometimes he freaks out and lets everyone down... he's not consistent, but I think he's getting better. Oh and surprise, he didn't cry this episode. Don't worry, he'll cry next week.
My final three prediction so far:
Rami
Jillian
Christian
on their heels:
Kevin
maybe Ricky, if he can pull himself together.
