Project Runway, Episode 7

Posted January 10, 2008

So we've kicked most of the boring, not as talented people off and with the exception of Chris, I'm going to be a little sad to see anyone go. But Kevin.... already?? He was so close to winning several challenges and then BAM--his first time in the bottom two and auf wiedersehen? Daaaaamn Heidi.

This episode opened my eyes a bit to the inner workings of some of the designers and how the demands of the show are wearing on them. Times are getting rough.

If you'd like to look at the designs while reading this, copy and paste this into your browser:

The episode:

Behind the screen stands what Kevin guessed might be an oompa loompa but surprisingly it was a slew of giggly teenage girls. Heidi explains to the designers after marching out the children models that they'd be designing for what might be the most important day in these girls' lives. It saddens me to think that a high school dance could be the best time of anyone's life. If I were one of those girls, the best day of my life would have been that day at effin Parsons on Project Runway. Screw prom. Anyway...

I like that the editors made some of the designers find old prom photos of themselves... that was good. Also, did Sweet P and Kit Pistol have the same prom date or was that just me?

Top Designs (only 2 this week):

Victorya (Electric blue bubble dress with the jeweled bib):

Even though Victorya is soulless, I really liked her dress this week. It was definitely the most exciting and interesting of all the designs. The colors and cut of the dress were young and fun. I think Sweet P's dress was lovely, but it didn't have the pizazz of this dress.

Sweet P (Silvery Champagne Grecian number):

This dress was undoubtedly gorgeous. Any girl would want to look like this for prom but Victorya's dress beat it out and I'm not surprised. The judges prefer the innovative to the ordinary and pretty. Now if this were judged by one girl who had to choose which prom dress she'd want to to wear rather than a panel of judges... it could have turned out differently. If you remember, I prefer the client stay out of the judging chairs. They tend to make boring choices. I'm happy with who won.

The Bottom Designs:

Kevin (short red halter dress):

Kevin... if I knew your middle name this is where I would say it, "Kevin Bartholomew, how could you do this to me?" Going and getting kicked off when you could have made it to the final three. If this dress were long instead of short and not that shade of red then this could have been a totally different story. He wouldn't have won or come close, but I think he could have been safe. I'm going to miss Kevin a great deal. siiiiiigh, but his dress deserved to be the one to go.

Christian (brown poofy dress with lace detail):

Christian's model was a terror. I never expected Christian to ever get so down on himself because he's usually so cocky. Apparently the boy's moods are either high high or low low. He sounded so defeated... chin up crazy kid. You have another chance now go be your sassy self. Oh yeah.. the dress: I didn't think it was awful. The back was a bit off, but other than that I actually thought it was cute.

Rami (olive asymetrical dress):

Quote from Nina, "It's just too sophisticated for this age."

"Um. Can I respond to that, says Rami. All of my work is sophisticated."

Oh PUH-LEASE. This is the second diva moment I can remember of Rami's, but this one was just... ugh. No one sasses Nina. She's too awesome. I thought his color choice was terrible and the cut of the dress was too OLD. Sophisticated can be younger and you don't have to make a young girl's butt look like that.

Ricky (pale pink baby doll):

I don't understand why the judges hate everything Ricky does so much. Maybe it's because I'm pale or whatever, but I liked this dress (other than the poor hemming that made the bottom of the dress look crooked). I don't think that pale girls have to always wear bright colors in order to not be washed out. BOOYAH HEIDI. What do you think of that? Oh and thanks again Ricky for crying per usual.

The rest of 'em:

Jillian (ocean blue with mosaic bust details):

Mermaids. Jillian... how do you know about everything that I love? Why do you do glorious things every week and why do you make me love you more each episode? Jillian didn't get much screen time this episode which of course saddened me especially since her dress was pretty--top three anyone?

Kit Pistol (BLUE dress with the color blocking bust):

This dress reminded me of the color blocking mess from the Trend-Episode. I didn't like these colors combined at all... too 80s... too harsh for my liking.

Chris (long celery green dress):

This dress was pretty but it reminds me of something that a girl could find in a department store so I wasn't too impressed.

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE SHOW:

Victorya sits down with her model and asks why this particular schoolgirl wanted to work with her and the girl responds, "Well actually I got last pick."

HA HA HA AHA HFD h ahHA HHAhahHA H HA.

serves you right Victorya.

At least she was slightly humiliated before she won... there is some justice in this world I see.

Speaking of... she didn't even seem that excited about winning. Perhaps she's on some sort of mood numbing drugs. Either that, or as I mentioned earlier, she has no soul. Both are quite plausible.
