Project Runway, Finale
Posted March 11, 2008
So the Finale was last week...
I've been busy; what can ya do?
I was on the edge of my seat watching this episode, not allowing my fellow PR watcher to eat chips during the show or talk to me on commercial breaks. I'd like to thank him for his patience with me now. I am slightly insane.
Here is the address to the Project Runway website's "Rate the Runway." It will take you through all of the collections as a refresher and perhaps serve as a nice compliment to this blog:

On with the show,
Jillian freaks out about models looking different because she's s perfectionist.
Rami is chill.
Christian isn't his usual confident self because he sees his competition's collections.
Jillian's collection:
There were two looks, maybe three that I thought were quite extraordinary:
1. The black flared skirt with the red, black and white scarf. That was quirky and cute, loved it.
2. Black and white knit shirt with poofy sleeves, oversized black knit beanie and short grey skirt.... I want this. I want to stare at it all day. I want to wear it all day, all night, all my life.
3. Black and silver dress with the wispy, full bottom half... the top was shaped like a halter with sleeves attached--I think this is a very flattering shape.
These were the things I noticed first, but of course there are more things I love.
Jillian's pleating on the short gold dress and the long black dress are gorgeous... there's a dress that Kate Hudson wore with this pleating about three years ago.. Copy and paste this link into your browser to see what I'm talking about... I'm sorry I couldn't find a better shot, it was a while ago and I can't remember the designer.

Anyhow, I adore this dress, and of course Jillian is awesome and worked with similar fabric.
Rami's Collection:
I agree with the judges when they say they don't think Rami's color choices are the best. I have the same problem with him. All that magenta... It's almost right, but eh. Funny thing though, the judges chose Chloe Dao as the winner of Season 2 and she uses a lot of the same colors that Rami used this year. At least the blues were similar....
Other than color and some asymmetrical mishaps (some things looked as though they were between being centered and being off-centered and it was hard to tell if he meant to do things that way or if the garments were poorly fitted to the model, or whatever), I think he was almost the front runner to win.
Rami's taste is not my taste, but I loved his gowns. The gold, one-shouldered gown, the black detailed strapless gown and the white and gold textured geometrical (sorta) gown were all stunning.
I think that is the difference between Jillian and Rami is that Jillian is more sportswear (every-day wear is called sportswear by Michael Kors sooo I will use the same term here) and Rami is evening. I think Rami's dramatic shapes are well-suited for evening and he proved how meticulous he can be. Jillian makes more "attainable" evening wear, but those pleats--to die for--and those shapes she makes!
ah
anyway.
Christian's collection:
Black, black, black, cream, black, black, black, black, black, cream, cream, brown.
Sigh.
His collection was very inspired and he made some crazy interesting silhouettes but this just wasn't breathtaking for me. I feel like I could see how hard he worked, but it was almost too costume-y for me. Fashion though... it's subjective.
I actually didn't think Christian was going to win. I thought it was between Jillian and Rami, but alas, as my mom said on a voicemail after the show, "That little twerp actually won!"
This year's project runway was the most exciting of all, at least when it came to the designers. There was so much talent on the show and though the front runners were obvious from the start, no one was completely sure who was going to stay. Of all the season finales, this was the closest match-up in my opinion. Anyone could have won. Last season's was hard to choose between, but it was at least obvious who wasn't going to win. This year it wasn't that easy to count anyone out.
Congratulations Christian. It's not that I believe that you didn't deserve to win, but you understand where my loyalties lie.
Jillian, you are forever my favorite and I wish you all the best.
