Race Map

There were more than 21,000 participants in last year's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Little Rock, and it's not too late to sign up for the 14th annual event, which is set for 8 a.m. Oct. 20 in downtown.

Registration is easy, with in-person as well as online options available.

Register in person at the Race Space in Pleasant Ridge Town Center Oct. 5-19. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. Cost is $25 per person. The Race Space closes at 2 p.m. Oct. 19.

You also can register online through Oct. 17 at www.komenarkansas.org/race/. Those who register after Oct. 12 will have to pick up their information packets and T-shirts, which normally are mailed.

Or, if you want to wait until race day, go to the table at Third Street and Broadway between 6 and 8 a.m. The cost will be $30, though.

Race participants can send a Pink Postcard Tribute in honor of someone special for $5 when registering.

There are three options if you want to take part in the race. The 5K Run/Walk is open to women, survivors and children. The 2K Family Fun Walk/Run is open to everyone. Walkers are welcome to use strollers in both events. The 3 Miles of Men is a way for men to participate by lining the race route and cheering on the runners.

There are other ways you can participate in the race without actually running. If you can't be there on race day you can pay $25 to be a Spirit Runner. You'll still get a T-shirt.

With the Tinkled Pink promotion, you can sponsor a portapotty for $100 and put your name or company logo on it. Call (501) 202-4399 for more information.

And there's a whole host of events taking place in the days leading up to the race.

Diamond Bear Brewery at Third and Cross streets will sponsor a 3 Miles of Men Tailgate Party from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 18, with door prizes, Larry's Pizza, free beer, live music and spirits.

There will be a Pink Duck Walk at 5 p.m. Oct. 19 in the lobby of the Peabody Little Rock Hotel and a Pasta Party for racers from 6 to 9 p.m. that same day in the River Market Pavilion. Pasta Party tickets are $20, with live music by The Rockets.

Parking downtown always seems to be a concern, and race day is no exception.

On-street parking for the race will be available outside of the race route. There will be limited survivor parking between Third and Fourth streeets and Gaines and Arch streets: you must have a survivor shirt or bib. There also will be a Central Arkansas Transit bus shuttle leaving from War Memorial Stadium from 6 to 7:50 a.m., $1 roundtrip.

The race day schedule:

6-8 a.m. Packet Pick-up and Registration.

6:30 a.m. Survior Breakfast at Metropolitan National Bank Plaza at Capitol Avenue and Broadway.

7:15 a.m. Survivor photo at Metropolitan National Bank Plaza at Capitol Avenue and Broadway; photo can be picked up at luncheon.

7:40 a.m. Pre-race ceremony.

8 a.m. 5K begins.

8:20 a.m. 2K begins.

9:30 a.m. Survivor parade, meet at Second Street and Broadway. Everyone else is encouraged to line the parade route.

9:45 a.m. Awards ceremony at Robinson Center.

The Survivor Luncheon will immeditaly follow the ceremony. It is free to survivors and $15 for everyone else, and payment will be taken at the door. Dress is "come as you are."

More information on the race is available at www.komenarkansas.org.
