The Ar-CAN-sas Brewery Collectibles Club, that is, the folks who take collecting beer-related memorabilia more seriously than stacking empties on the shelf, will meet next weekend at Burns Park in North Little Rock to show, trade and sell their finds at the group's 30th annual Sizzle 'n Sweat show, their signature event of the year.
“There will be a little bit of everything,” said ABCC vice president Jack Stowe of Maumelle, noting that the meet generally draws collectors from across the state as well as from nearby Texas and Missouri.
Cans, bottles, glasses, signs, labels, coasters, mirrors, keychains, openers, patches, and even pamphlets from breweries and bars far and wide are likely to be among the goods up for sale and trade at the event, which will kick off “around midmorning” on Saturday, July 12 at the Louis Gershner pavilion in Burns Park (on Arlene Laman Drive, the first right on the south side of Interstate 40). Folks will usually stick around until about 2 or 3 p.m., when the heat just gets to be too much, Stowe said.
While club members pay $1 just to help cover the cost of pavilion rental, there's no charge for first timers, Stowe said. And regardless of how much you want to spend — or even if you don’t want to spend anything at all — there will be plenty to see, he added.
“If you just come for the fun, it doesn't cost much at all,” he said. “You can spend anywhere from $1 to $100 on stuff. We always have a wide mix.”
Newcomers also are likely to find food on the grill along with all the beer-related products, but one thing they won't find is alcohol itself; it isn't permitted on the grounds.
“These [collectibles] are all empty,” Stowe assured.
