Where are you from? Where have you lived?
There are two great writers from Stamps — Maya Angelou and me. Well … okay. Maybe there’s just one great writer from Stamps. But I did grow up there. I managed to escape when I was 17. Of course, I only went as far as Texas.

Where’d you go to school? Was it easy for you to pick a major?
I started my undergraduate work at Baylor University but transferred to the University of Central Arkansas after a couple of years. My mother wanted me to be an accountant, but I rebelled after taking Accounting II. It was way too hard, so I studied political science instead. Things like hegemony and shuttle diplomacy turned me on more than debits and credits did. I soon will have a Master of International Journalism degree from Baylor. I have completed the coursework, and I spent nearly three months in western Kenya, where I peed in a hole in the ground, fled a rapist and reluctantly handed my money over to drunken soldiers. Now, I have to pass a French exam. I’d rather live in a hut for three more months.

What has been your favorite/worst job?
I’ve had many jobs during my life. The worst was a babysitting job I took when I was 14. I was hired to watch 6-year-old twin boys. They were monsters; they did everything they could think of to terrorize me — and the family dog. I quit after just one week. My current job is my favorite one because the people are cool and the assignments are even cooler!

What’s your dream job?
To be Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy so I can make out with Patrick Dempsey.

When you were a kid what was your favorite toy? What happened to it? Would you still like to have it today?
I used to have a little red wagon back when they were all metal. I have no idea what happened to it. I played with it all the time, creating little landscapes using mounds of dirt, sticks and rocks. One summer day I caught a frog and put him in my wagon. My mom called me inside for lunch, and while I was eating, my frog got fried by the sun. I came back outside to find a crispy critter. I don’t know why he didn’t just jump out of the wagon, but I couldn’t bring myself to play with that death machine after that.

Do you feel like a grown up? If not, do you think you ever will? If yes, when did that happen?
Yes, I feel like a grown up. I think I was born 30 because I’ve always been a very responsible person. But I do experience moments of regression - like when I wake up in the morning. I just lie there and whine until my husband yanks the covers off of me and makes me get up.

If you could travel or live anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
There are so many places I want to visit; I can’t name them all. But I would love to live on a vineyard in Spain. No, I don’t speak a bit of Spanish, but I can totally see myself making wine and paella for a bunch of people.

What is your most embarrassing moment or a funny story your family always tells about you?
My youngest sister is always telling stories about our childhood, but I think she makes up most of it because I don’t remember it. As far as the most embarrassing moment ... I would be crazy to share that!

Do you have any pets? Do you share any of their personality traits?
I have three dogs, and I share personality traits with each. My poodle, Wilson, shares my aversion to getting out of bed in the morning. My black lab mix, Shannon, and I are the ones who keep everyone in line. And my border collie mix, Scout, and I both have to have a yummy treat before we go to bed at night. He prefers jerky; I prefer chocolate.

Any hobbies?
I do a lot of yard work and home remodeling projects, but that’s more out of necessity than anything else. I love to read, cook and travel when I have the time. I’m also an online shopaholic.

Any food or cooking-related disaster stories?
I tried to cook lasagna for a boyfriend one time, but the glass dish I baked it in exploded after I removed it from the oven. Lasagna flew everywhere. Luckily, I wasn’t cut to shreds by the glass. We ended up eating out.

Why did you apply to work on this publication?
I applied for this job while I was still in Africa, so I didn’t know anything about the publication until my first interview. But I am excited to be the editor of Sync. We’re actually on the front lines of helping Little Rock become an even trendier place to live - not just reporting things after the fact.
